The best time to play slots online, in short
If you want the honest answer to the best time to play slots online, it is whenever you have a budget and a time limit set. No hour or day pays out more. What does change through the day is how many people are playing, and that is what we measure here: every bet at every casino we track, counted hour by hour.
Online casinos are busiest from 9pm to 12am UTC (5pm to 8pm EDT) and quietest from 6am to 9am UTC (2am to 5am EDT). Monday is the busiest day to gamble online and Sunday the quietest, but the gap between days is only a few percent. The table below turns those peak and quiet hours into your local time, and the charts further down let you pick any time zone.
| Where you play | Busiest hours | Quietest hours |
|---|---|---|
| US Eastern (New York) | 5pm to 8pm | 2am to 5am |
| US Central (Chicago) | 4pm to 7pm | 1am to 4am |
| US Pacific (Los Angeles) | 2pm to 5pm | 11pm to 2am |
| Brazil (Sao Paulo) | 6pm to 9pm | 3am to 6am |
| UK (London) | 9pm to 12am | 6am to 9am |
| Central Europe (Berlin) | 10pm to 1am | 7am to 10am |
| Japan (Tokyo) | 6am to 9am | 3pm to 6pm |
| Australia (Sydney) | 8am to 11am | 5pm to 8pm |
What time are online casinos busiest?
The typical casino is busiest in the European evening, which is the US afternoon: 9pm to 12am UTC, or 5pm to 8pm in New York. That is about 10% above an average hour. Play then drops through the night and bottoms out at 6am to 9am UTC (2am to 5am EDT), about 8% below average, before it climbs again through the afternoon.
Every casino counts the same here, so a big site doesn't drown out a small one. Pick your own time zone above and the chart moves with it.
The busiest hours of the week
Each square is one hour of one day, coloured by how busy it was against an average hour. Hover or tap a square for its number.
This chart uses the last 10 days of hourly counts, so each square is only a handful of hours so far. It firms up as more weeks come in, so treat single squares as a rough guide and the overall shape as the real pattern.
Best day to play slots: what day do people gamble most?
Monday has been the busiest day, about 4% above an average day, and Sunday the quietest at about 4% below. Weekends are about 3% quieter than weekdays, which surprises most people: online slots are more of a weeknight habit than a weekend one. The bigger point is how small these gaps are. The difference between days is a few percent, while the difference between the busiest and quietest hour is 23%. When you play in the day matters far more than which day it is.
Built from daily bet counts from Aug 5 to Oct 27. We compare each day with the rest of its own week, so a casino growing or shrinking over the months doesn't bend the result, and we drop days where a feed was down.

Activity at every casino
Each casino has its own rhythm. 8 of the 11 peak somewhere between 4pm and midnight UTC, but a few run on very different hours, which often hints at where most of their players live. All the charts share one scale, so a tall bar on one card means the same as on another.

When do slots pay out the most? Is there a best time to play?
No, and here is the data to back that up. A slot's result comes from a random number generator and its RTP is set in the game's code, so the odds are the same at every hour of every day. Nothing in the game changes with the clock.
What we can measure is how often 100x or bigger wins show up in the bets we log. Over the last 10 days that rate moved by about 29 points across the day, and the six month line shows a similar wave. The bump lines up with the busy hours, which points to who is playing rather than how slots pay. The mix of casinos, games and bet sizes changes through the day, and some games land 100x far more often per spin than others. We haven't split this down to single games yet, so we can't say which part of the mix drives it. What we can say is that it isn't the slot changing its odds.
Our verdict: there is no lucky hour. Play when it suits you, not when a chart says the slots are hot, and stick to the limits you set before you start.
Best time to play slots: four myths
"Slots pay out more late at night"
Every spin is decided by a random number generator the moment you press spin. The clock isn't part of that, so 3am and 9pm have the same odds. Our 100x chart above shows the small swings people notice come from what is being played, not when.
"A slot that hasn't paid in a while is due"
Spins don't remember each other. A slot that just went 200 spins without a bonus is exactly as likely to hit on the next spin as one that paid a minute ago. There is no hot or cold streak to time.
"Casinos tighten slots when it's busy"
Some studios release a slot in a few RTP versions and the casino picks one, but it doesn't switch between them by the hour or the day. Open the game's info screen to see the RTP you're actually playing.
"Fewer players means better odds"
Your spins aren't shared with anyone else, so the quiet hours don't leave more wins for you. Progressive jackpots grow with play, but for most of them the chance of hitting it on a spin stays the same.
What does change your results
Time of day doesn't. These do.
The slot's RTP
A 97% slot returns more over time than a 94% one at any hour. See the highest RTP slots.
Volatility
High-volatility slots pay rarely but big. Check how often a slot actually hits 100x in our slot stats.
Bonus timing
Weekly and monthly rakeback lands on set days. Work yours out with the Stake weekly bonus calculator.
Your own limits
Long sessions creep up on anyone. Set a time and loss limit before you start. Our responsible gambling page has tools that help.
How we measure casino activity
Betaro logs the public bet feeds of every casino we track, around the clock. Every hour we count each casino's bets, wins and 100x+ wins for that hour, and every night we total each day. Since Aug 5 that is 264,221,042 bets.
For the hour charts we take each casino's median bets for every hour of the day, so one outage or one strange hour doesn't skew it, and divide by that casino's average hour. Then every casino gets an equal vote. For days we use the middle casino's figure (the median), so one site with an unusual week can't swing the result. Feeds that return a fixed number of bets per check are left out, and so are casinos with under five days of hourly data.
The 100x line compares each casino's 100x+ wins in an hour with what its own all-day rate would predict, so a casino that happens to be busy at night can't push the line up by itself. The long-run line uses the win totals we have kept for every hour since May. Full details are on our methodology page.
Casino activity: your questions
What is the best time to play slots online?
There is no time of day when online slots pay more. Every spin is settled by a random number generator and the slot's return to player (RTP) is fixed in the game, so it is the same at 4am as it is at 9pm. If you mean the busiest time, it is 9pm to 12am UTC (5pm to 8pm EDT), when casinos log about 10% more bets than in an average hour.
What time are online casinos busiest?
Across the 11 casinos we can measure, the busiest run of hours is 9pm to 12am UTC, which is 5pm to 8pm in New York. The quietest is 6am to 9am UTC (2am to 5am EDT). At the peak the typical casino logs 1.23x as many bets per hour as it does at its quietest.
What day of the week do people gamble online the most?
Monday has been the busiest day, about 4% above an average day, and Sunday the quietest, about 4% below. Weekends are about 3% quieter than weekdays. That is over the last 5+ full weeks of bets we logged.
What time do slots pay out the most?
None. Online slots pay out at the same rate at every hour because each spin is random and the RTP is fixed in the game. The 100x+ wins in our data do bunch up a little in the evening, but that follows the busy hours and the mix of games being played, not slots paying out more. The best time to gamble is simply when you have set a budget and a time limit.
What is the best day to play slots online?
No day pays better, but Monday has been the busiest day for online slots and Sunday the quietest. The gap between days is only a few percent, far smaller than the gap between the busiest and quietest hours.
Do slots pay more at night or on weekends?
No. Time doesn't change the maths of a slot. Our data does show 100x or bigger wins turning up a little more often at some hours (up to about 15% above average), but that comes from which casinos and which games are being played at that hour, not from slots paying more. If high-volatility slots get more of the play in the evening, the 100x count goes up in the evening too.
Why are some casinos missing from the timing charts?
Some casino feeds hand back a fixed number of bets every time we check them, so their hourly count stays flat no matter how busy the site is. We still log their bets for slot stats, but we leave them out of the timing charts so they don't flatten the pattern. Right now that is 500 Casino, BC.Game, Gamba, Goated, Rainbet, Razed, Roobet, Shuffle, Shuffle.us.
How often is this page updated?
Bets are rolled up into hourly counts every hour and daily counts every night, and this page rebuilds from those every hour. Hour-of-day charts use the last few weeks, and the day-of-week chart uses the last 12 weeks.
